I didn’t have much time to sew up the April patterns from my sewing rabbit membership, but last week I whipped up The Jack and Jill Colorblock Shirt for my little man. It is a great shirt pattern with lots of options for both boy and girl shirts from Peaches and Peanuts. Shannon the designer behind Peaches and Peanuts also has a blog called little kids grow, which I have been following for some time now.
He had already told me that he wanted me to sew him something blue and orange and it didn’t take him long to choose the fabric he wanted when I let him look at the fabrics I had on hand. I only had scraps of the orange one so I couldn’t do much colorblocking. I’m thinking of putting orange buttons on it as well, I just have to go to the store and get some. At first he didn’t like that I made the short sleeve version but after wearing it for a little while he forgot all about that and thought he was very cool with his Ray Bans as well which match the shirt perfectly! The Ray Bans are of course from Synsam Sandnes Optikk, the best place to get glasses in Norway, not that I’m biased or anything – I just work there! 🙂
And here he is my cool dude! 🙂
I made him a size 4 with short sleeves and the long pocket. The blue fabric is a Robert Kaufman bought at fabric.com
I only manage to sew one garment in April, I swear that month just flew by! With Easter, my second oldest son’s Confirmation and my mom visiting from Iceland, April was a fantastic month but just went by way to fast! Time flies when you’re having fun, am I right?
What I did sew was a dress (no surprise there I guess) for my daughter to wear to her brothers Confirmation. As soon as I saw that pattern for the first time I knew I would make it for that occasion. I think it is one of the sweetest little dress pattern I have seen, it has the perfect balance between fancy and girly I think. I am of course talking about the Ethereal Dress by Figgy’s.
So do you want to see some photos of my little cutie in her dress?
The main fabric is some quilting cotton from my local fabric shop and for the flounce I used chiffon. I had to go into hiding while I was sewing this one as I was sure she would want to put it on at once and wear it to daycare, and I was right she practically squealed when she saw it and ripped of the clothes she was wearing so she could put on her new dress.
I sewed up a size 3 for my skinny little almost 3 year old. The dress is a little roomy but thats how we like them anyway so we are very happy with how it came out!
And here is the whole gang. Anita is the only one wearing mommy made clothes this time around, I don’t think my 15 or 18 year old would agree to wear something I made anyway, but I hope to venture into sewing for myself as well as for my little ones.
I am so rich!! 🙂
I really do feel I got my money’s worth from the March patterns I got as a pattern member with the sewing rabbit. Now before I start on my April patterns, which are let me tell you fabulous! I’ll show you the Madeline Dress I made from the March patterns. It was the first pattern Jess Abbott the amazing lady behind the sewing rabbit team designed. I must say I am stunned by all those incredible pattern designers I have found on my sewing journey. Who knows maybe I’ll get there myself one day, although I can’t see it at the moment, but maybe if I keep gaining experience. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see, but at the moment I’m just enjoying the ride and sewing my heart out.
And I can’t tell you how much my heart swelled up getting such lovely comments on my knight hoodie blog post from so very talented seamstresses and fellow bloggers! Thank you! It really made my day and boosted my confidence!
Ok so do you want to see some photos of my darling princess modeling her Madeline Dress? She totally loved it, and it looks like she is getting more used to the modeling part cause she knew exactly what she was supposed to do!
Anita is two and a half years old and I made her a size 3 dress. I think the fit is great on her with a little bit of a room to grow into. When I cut the fabric for the skirt part I forgot I wanted to do the longer version so I added about 11 cm to the bottom of the skirt with some lace in-between the two layers.
I love the vintage look of this dress! Again I messed up when cutting the fabric so my bottom extension came out to narrow so I decided to add a piece at the center back in the same fabric as the bodice.
All models need a little break when on a photo shot.
Big brother is always ready to land a helping hand.
So tomorrow I’ll start printing out my new patterns, so check back soon. Also if you are on Bloglovin
I would really love if you would like to follow my little blog there.
Not the edible kind though but the cupcake top a design from sewing mama raeanna. It’s a sweet simple unisex knit t-shirt with a kangaroo pocket and some ruffles for the girls if you want. I made one with ruffles in size 3 for Anita and a size 5 for Viktor without the ruffles of course. They both love their new t-shirts especially the pocket.
We are definitely loving this lovely spring wether we are having!
Do you want ice cream??
Of course I had to make a Knight Hoodie for my princess as well. So my castle is completely safe now with to knights guarding it 🙂 It is a wonderfully charming pattern by Charming doodle it was one of three patterns I received for the month of March for being a pattern member with the sewing rabbit. I can’t wait for tomorrow when we get three new patterns to play with in April.
I used a double sided fleece again this time in pink and red and I omitted the face armor on this one too.
I kind of messed up the zipper but I hope nobody looks that closely at it, she doesn’t stay still for that long anyway! 🙂
I’ll be back soon with the dress I’m just finishing up which also was a part of my March package.
A few weeks ago I became a Pattern Member of the Sewing Rabbit. You get 3 patterns each month and it’s a great community to get to know other people with sewing addiction and share your projects. This first month we got the cool Knight Hoodie, the practical Toiletry Travel Bag and the sweet Madeline Dress.
So far I have sewn up a hoodie for my littlest man, let me tell you he LOVES it! And now my little lady wants one as well and I just can’t say no when they want me to sew them something so I bought some more fleece to make her one too, and its already washed just needs to dry before I can start on a pink knight hoodie.
For Viktors hoodie I used a light blue and navy double sided fleece. I omitted the face armor since he doesn’t like zippers in his face, otherwise I followed the pattern. I did a size 5 even though size 4 would probably have been spot on but I wanted it to be more of a jacket then a sweater, and a little room to grow in doesn’t hurt either.
Are we done already…?
Now he has a nice and warm fleece hoodie for early spring, and its big enough that he will still be able to wear it in the fall.
I better start tracing a size 3 for the lady of the house, I’ll post that one as soon as it’s ready!
A few weeks ago I bought two patterns from Figgy’s new Heavenly collection, The Stellar Tunic and The Ethereal Dress. I have already sewn up The Stellar Tunic but haven’t gotten around to do the Ethereal dress just yet, but I will soon because I was planning to use that one for Anita’s Easter dress.
The Stellar Tunic turned out great, although I got a tiny bit nervous when cutting all those pieces for the sleeves and as that wasn’t enough of small pieces I decided to do a little color blocking on the body as well. Mostly because obviously it had to be pink and I find that often dresses look like nightgowns when they are a solid pink color.
Sorry about the bad photos that follow! I promise I’ll start taking better photos!
And to crazy hair photos 🙂
It really was fun to sew and I totally see myself making many more of these. I think it is a great comfortable play dress and not to mention stylish! And the best part my little stubborn princess likes it a lot! A total WIN 🙂
As I followed the Heavenly Tour all over blogland I participated in some of the contests for a chance to win a pattern and what do know I – WON – the Celestial maxi skirt on CailaMade
! I never win anything so I was over the moon I was so happy 🙂
I don’t have photos of the skirt just yet, but Anita loves that one as well! 🙂
