A wild cat in her Nena top

Today I’m on an Instagram tour with KaatjeNaaisels again, this time featuring The Nena Dress & Top which has also just been released in English.

Here is my cat in her top with birds on it!  Kind of a mixed signal going on here, she suddenly chose to wear the mask and she is the star of the photoshoot so thats how we roll today.

This was a fun sew with a great pattern with lots of great little details like the pleat at the back and at the shoulders, the ribbon in the front and the elastic at the waist.  The armholes are finished with a bias binding and all the seams are closed so it’s beautiful inside and out.

The fabric I used I bought quite some time ago from Urban-Sew.  Both are from the Woodland Clearing collection by Liesl Gibson for Robert Kaufman.  It’s lightweight cotton and it was perfect for this top.

The back can be closed with ties or a hook.  I used a button and sewed a thin round elastic into the seam allowance to go over the button.  The pattern comes in size 2y-10y and can be made either as top or a dress.  I surprised even myself when I decided to go with the top version instead of the dress.  I made size 6 width and 7 length and I hope she will still be able to wear it next summer.

I'm a mom to four fantastic kids, three boys and a girl. To teenagers and to toddlers so never a dull moment in our household :) We are from Iceland but have been living in Norway since 2001. I have a newfound passion for sewing. My hubby travels a lot for work and I needed something to do at night when the little ones are a sleep because suddenly my teenage boys would rather hang with their friends or play on their pc's than be with me - why is beyond my imagination :) Thanks to Pinterest I found some amazing sewing bloggers, whom I've been stalking, and realized that I could dig out my sewing machine and start sewing. Now it's all I think about. I've been hoarding pdf patterns and learning from all the amazing tutorials that are out there. I've decided to try out this blogging thing as well to document my sewing journey. We'll see how it goes! Thanks for stopping by, I would love it if you would leave me a comment! XOXO Dagbjört
