A woven wrap delight.

It does look like wrap dresses are the thing these days.  Usually I’m about a year or two behind on what’s in, but I actually have sewn a few both true and faux wrap dresses both in jersey and woven.  I’ll put links to my previous posts at the bottom, but this post is all about the brand new Ava Wrap dress from Wardrobe by me.

Ava is a pattern for a true wrap dress in woven fabric.  It offers a plain neckline with facing or a shawl collar, elbow length sleeves with cuffs, two hem lengths and pockets.

I did the neckline with a facing and the longer hem length in size 6 but graded to 10 at the hips.

The fabric I bought at Stoff og Stil, its some kind of polyester crap, ops I mean crepe.  Not the most fun to sew with as it grew in all directions and frayed like there was no tomorrow.  In the end I had to have my dress wrap with the left side on top because the belt came out way too wobbly on the other side and unpicking this thing was not an option, well not to me anyway.  Other then that I think I managed to handle the challenge of the fabric ok.  I love the print and although its polyester it’s not to bad to wear apart from it being very static at times.  So I will definitely use it.

The pattern however was a delight to sew, with its nice details such as bust darts, small gathers at the back of the neck and waistline and curved hem.  I must say I also love the new look for the instructions.

Most of my photos looked something like this one, with sidekick one chasing the ducks and sidekick two upside-down.  Just to keep things real, haha!

If you are still on a look out for a pattern for a lovely summer dress I highly recommend Ava!

As I promised at the beginning of this post, here are links to my previous wrap dresses:

Diana a true wrap jersey dress, one and two.

Mirri a faux wrap jersey dress, one and two.

I hacked Hera into a faux wrap jersey dress.

Madrid a faux wrap dress for woven.

I'm a mom to four fantastic kids, three boys and a girl. To teenagers and to toddlers so never a dull moment in our household :) We are from Iceland but have been living in Norway since 2001. I have a newfound passion for sewing. My hubby travels a lot for work and I needed something to do at night when the little ones are a sleep because suddenly my teenage boys would rather hang with their friends or play on their pc's than be with me - why is beyond my imagination :) Thanks to Pinterest I found some amazing sewing bloggers, whom I've been stalking, and realized that I could dig out my sewing machine and start sewing. Now it's all I think about. I've been hoarding pdf patterns and learning from all the amazing tutorials that are out there. I've decided to try out this blogging thing as well to document my sewing journey. We'll see how it goes! Thanks for stopping by, I would love it if you would leave me a comment! XOXO Dagbjört
