Soray + Imari = Perfect Pair

This all started with Anita outgrowing her old denim shorts and I had decided that I would sacrifice one of my favourite fabric from my stash to make her a new pair.  I know, I really love her!  I had The Imari Shorts from Sansahash all cut out and ready to go when the tester call for The Soray Top and Dress came.  Perfect timing!

Anita is not so much into wearing dresses these days so I will probably be making more tops and bottoms in the future.  But that’s ok when you have gorgeous patterns that offer both options.

The back is the real eye-catcher of the Soray with ruffles and the crisscross elastic, isn’t that awesome?  As you can see my theme was blue fabric with gold spots.

The Soray comes in three lengths top, dress and maxi.  It’s for woven fabric with good drape.  It has a lined bodice and comes in sizes 6 months to 12 years.  For Anita I had to do some blending to get the perfect fit so hers is chest 6, waist 4 and length between 9 and 10.  As all Sansahash patterns this one also has great instructions on how to blend your pattern pieces to get the perfect fit.

The Imari shorts come in two versions, flat-styled and bubble shorts.  I had only sewed the bubble shorts before so it was time to try the flat-styled.  They have a back yoke, back pockets, elastic back waistband, flat front with pleats and a faux fly.  The pattern comes in the same size range as the Soray.  I made Anita hips 6 and length 9, I should have graded down the waist but I cheated and just used a shorter elastic for the back.  Hush, don’t tell on me!!  I also didn’t have the right width of elastic so I made a casing and used 2 pieces of 1 cm elastic instead.

The fabric I used for the Soray is double gauze I bought from Stofflykke.  I bought mine late last year but here you can see what colours are available now.  I made myself pjs-pants before Christmas from this fabric and its a delight to wear.  Here’s my post on my pjs-pants, you see how the same fabric can be both elegant and cozy.

This is a normal pose, right?  Well, for Anita it sure is, haha!  At least it shows the front of the shorts.  The fabric I used for the shorts I’ve had for a few years and its either from Imagine Gnats or Miss Matatabi, those are my two favourite and go to overseas online stores.

The Soray is on a typical new release sale price at the moment and if you are inspired by my Soray+Imari combo you can use this code SORAYIMARI to get a good deal on the Imari as well.  I also recommend that you join the Sansahash FB group if you are like me and like getting things for less, because there you can find a code with an even better deal on the Soray.  Also its a fun group to be in!

I'm a mom to four fantastic kids, three boys and a girl. To teenagers and to toddlers so never a dull moment in our household :) We are from Iceland but have been living in Norway since 2001. I have a newfound passion for sewing. My hubby travels a lot for work and I needed something to do at night when the little ones are a sleep because suddenly my teenage boys would rather hang with their friends or play on their pc's than be with me - why is beyond my imagination :) Thanks to Pinterest I found some amazing sewing bloggers, whom I've been stalking, and realized that I could dig out my sewing machine and start sewing. Now it's all I think about. I've been hoarding pdf patterns and learning from all the amazing tutorials that are out there. I've decided to try out this blogging thing as well to document my sewing journey. We'll see how it goes! Thanks for stopping by, I would love it if you would leave me a comment! XOXO Dagbjört
