My little lady in her London Dress

Anita has declared that she needs new summer dresses and she has grown so much this winter that I totally agree with her.  She has also been going through my fabric stash and claiming what she wants, which is pretty much everything that has flowers on it or a hint of pink or purple.  So I better get this party started!

Like that’s not enough she also wants a long dress.  I’ve been on the fence about that cause I’m not a huge fan of maxi dresses on little girls.  Then Shwin Designs launched the London Dress so I thought one maxi length dress wouldn’t hurt.

… and she is VERY HAPPY!

I made her a size 5, it is perfect length wise but she is so skinny so it’s a bit roomy.  I tell myself that it will just be more comfortable on hot summer days, which I’m counting on we will have plenty of this summer!

She didn’t realize the open back until she saw the pictures.  It made her love the dress even more.  Both fabrics are cotton & steel, the horses I bought from laughing house fabric and the gemstone from miss matatabi.  The gemstone is rayon poplin so its pretty light weight and has a great drape that makes it perfect for such a long skirt.  I did french seams on the skirt pieces for a more elegant finish.

The twirl factor had to be tested as well and was approved by the little missy!!

I'm a mom to four fantastic kids, three boys and a girl. To teenagers and to toddlers so never a dull moment in our household :) We are from Iceland but have been living in Norway since 2001. I have a newfound passion for sewing. My hubby travels a lot for work and I needed something to do at night when the little ones are a sleep because suddenly my teenage boys would rather hang with their friends or play on their pc's than be with me - why is beyond my imagination :) Thanks to Pinterest I found some amazing sewing bloggers, whom I've been stalking, and realized that I could dig out my sewing machine and start sewing. Now it's all I think about. I've been hoarding pdf patterns and learning from all the amazing tutorials that are out there. I've decided to try out this blogging thing as well to document my sewing journey. We'll see how it goes! Thanks for stopping by, I would love it if you would leave me a comment! XOXO Dagbjört

  2. I was on the fence about maxi dresses for a long time too, but now anytime my girls get one – it is their new favorite dress. I think as long as they are appropriate for their age, OK. Love the dress you made, and the fabrics are used are perfect!
